California Bathroom Remodel - MiLar Design & Build

A 1,111-square foot English Revival bungalow tucked into a Pasadena cul-de-sac needed a fresh bathroom that still held on to the original Spanish style of this 1926 home.

A beautiful archway over the standing shower was an architectural feature the client wasn’t willing to lose in the redesign of this space.

Working as a team, we were able to not only incorporate the archway, but design it as a focal point of the room, combining the shower with the tub, and creating a private nook for the toilet using the old standing shower space.

Using the client’s desires and budget as the framework for our project, we selected porcelain hexagon terracotta tiles for the floor to bring to life the Spanish aesthetic, with terrazzo tiles on the countertop to add depth and texture with their multicolor print.

Sage green subway and mini hexagon tiles on the backsplash and shower walls added a contrasting color against the neutral hues, with black finish fixtures to bring it all together.

With a few inspiration images and a handful of design meetings, we were able to create a look that not only stayed within the client’s budget but echoed the beauty of the original design of the home.

We had fun mixing colors and shapes to create this cozy and inviting bathroom. Let the bubble baths begin!
